Check out the gallery at ed. art
On a street in Södermalm we find Elisabeth Blennow Calälv and her gallery ed. art. Here are thousands of works of art with lithographs, woodcuts, etchings and art books in a place that is both workplace and exhibition space. We visited the gallery to talk about ed. art, why the TÔNN shelf has become part of everyday life and which artist Elisabeth dreams of bringing into the spotlight.
Hello Elisabeth! Where are we and what is happening here?
We are in my gallery ed. art on Timmermansgatan on Söder. Here we work with art in edition, that is, art prints of various kinds, such as lithographs, etchings, woodcuts and such. We have contact with a lot of artists who submit works to us, and then we pass them on to buyers. Sometimes the customers come here, or they buy directly from our online shop. But this is the heart of the business, where we store all our thousands of works of art.
I started this business more than a decade ago because I found it so difficult to find good art that I could afford anyway. Not poster prints, but not oil paintings either. I used to work at a gallery that sold originals that were way outside my budget. So then I started ed. art.
The shelf is a living exhibition space! Because it is so easy to create "holes" by moving the shelves, we can both fit all our art books and with artwork that we change according to taste. The shelf is in our office so here we choose artworks that we want to rest our eyes on when we work. It is also very suitable for art books in the slightly larger format, as the space between the shelves is so well provided.

Is there any artist you dream of highlighting, who you think more people should open their eyes to? Dead or alive!
Wow, tough question! But I would love to see a solo exhibition in Stockholm with Cuban-American performance artist Ana Mendieta. The little I've seen of her has been fragile and raw at the same time. Of Swedish artists who have made a lot of prints, Sten Eklund is a personal favorite - clever and a little odd but at the same time with a visually appealing image world.
